"This is the story of Dina Babbitt, a Holocaust survivor who was forced by the real-life death-doctor - Josef Mengele - to paint portraits of Roma and Jews before they were sent to their deaths in the gas chambers.
The Artist has been attempting to secure the return of these works of art since they came to light in 1973, but the Museum has steadfastly refused. It cites ridiculous justifications that these paintings were really "works for hire" and actually belong to Mengele (or his heirs). This is of course, ludicrous and despicable.
At the time this article was published (January 2009) Dina was 85 and in failing health. So Neal Adams, Joe Kubert and Stan Lee got involved - appealing to the artistic and comics community to put pressure on the Museum to return these paintings to their rightful creator.
Dina passed away in July, 2009, never having seen the return of her portraits. Her family continues the fight.
Here are some more of the places you can read (or listen to) his work about comics.
